Biography
Tamara García Iglesias (Lasarte, 1978) has worked as a director, producer and curator in Spain and Argentina for the last 10 years.
Statement
The detonator was Jean Rhys’ book, Wide Sargasso Sea, in which the writer gives context to the madwoman who appears in Bronte’s novel, Jane Eyre. I thought about how the “madwomen” who appear throughout film history are women who are not asked, they are mute. And it led me to the film archive of the 1920s and 1930s, where women represented what the directors needed. Finding a casting from 1917 in Buenos Aires makes me want to write lines of dialogue, in an act of rewriting.
