Archivio Aperto & Open Frame Research

Curated by Giulia Simi

The festival’s new spaces dedicated to academic research and its intersections with private, amateur, and experimental film archives.

Archivio Aperto Research is a space for study, presentation, and discussion of Italian and international projects adopting interdisciplinary approaches, ranging from film studies and applied anthropology to media archaeology and memory studies. In Open Frame Research, research takes the form of the video essay. This year’s edition features two projects in which historical research, archives, artificial intelligence, gender studies, and self-ethnographic practices come together to explore new languages and forms of representation.
