Il giovane rottame (The young wreck) is based on a story of the same name by Andrea Granchi, written in the form of a parodied biography.
“The film retraces and uses, with a marked and sometimes bitter irony, that heterogeneous collection of materials, documents, images, and objects that represent the accumulation of a life starting from childhood. The key to the work lies in the reversal of the natural relationship between youth and old age, in the paroxysmal and comically pathetic exorcism of ‘the passing of time’ and in the paradox of a reverse ‘career’ in which, progressively, in the name of conventional and deceptive ideals of success and health, the protagonist loses pieces of himself, declines, and transforms until the rhetorical epilogue of the end” (A. G.).
