The nature of the Archive is the section of the festival dedicated to the interplay between the botanical world and memory, films, and archives. This year, it hosts a valuable retrospective of Rose Lowder’s films, in the presence of the artist.
A pioneer of experimental cinema, Rose Lowder combines formal rigor and sensitive perception in a deeply ecological film practice. In her 16mm films, often shot outdoors, nature is not manipulated but observed, in a dialogue between chance and necessity. With her famous Bouquets, micro-visual compositions that last about a minute but are the result of days of filming, Lowder shows a living and vibrant nature. Archivio Aperto offers a rare Italian retrospective in three programs that explore technique, the natural world, and cinematic poetics.
