Video-poetic documentation in 13 episodes about the anti-G8 protests in Genoa
The video consists of 13 episodes recounting some of the events of the Genoa days: from the atmosphere in the Red Zone to the police charges against the march on July 21, and the scene around Carlo Giuliani’s body in Piazza Alimonda.
The footage is a selection of images filmed by Giacomo Verde and other independent videomakers associated with various groups. The video aims to show what the media cannot, because they are constrained by the rules of spectacle-driven communication and sensationalism. Many episodes are therefore accompanied by texts of “militant poetry,” offering points for reflection that go beyond the immediate facts. Others use “processed” images (slow motion, velocity effects, etc.) and an original sound commentary, moving beyond the documentary record that is nevertheless present.
The video is intended as a tool for emotional and political reflection, for the different strands of the anti-G8 movement, on the various issues that emerged during the Genoa days.
