Synopsis

Video-poetic documentation in 13 episodes on the anti-G8 protests in Genoa

The video consists of 13 episodes recounting some of the events of the Genoa days: from the atmosphere in the Red Zone to the police charges against the march on 21 July, and the scene around Carlo Giuliani’s body in Piazza Alimonda.

The footage is a selection of images filmed by Giacomo Verde and other independent videomakers associated with various groups. The aim is to show what the media cannot—or do not—show, because they are constrained by the rules of spectacle-driven communication and the pursuit of scoops.

Many episodes are therefore accompanied by texts of “militant poetry,” offering points for reflection that reach beyond the immediate events. Others use processed images—slow motion, speed changes, and so on—and an original soundtrack, in order to move beyond the documentary record while still retaining it.

The video aims to be a tool for emotional and political reflection, for the various strands of the anti-G8 movement, on the different issues that emerged during the days in Genoa.
