Structured in three parts, Mothlight is a silent collage film that Brakhage created without using a camera. The filmmaker gathered moth wings, flower petals, and blades of grass, pressing them between two strips of 16mm adhesive tape. The final assembly was then printed in a laboratory. As Brakhage described it, Mothlight is: “what a moth might see from birth to death if black became white and white became black.”
