Using drawings, photographs, nativity scene figures, magazine clippings, and photo novels, Granchi constructs a surrealist and ironic “theater of mutations and surprises” in this film. The film also includes animations of the artist’s previous works, such as Paesaggi per avventure (Landscapes for Adventures, 1970-71) and Falsi quadri d’autore (Fake Masterpieces, 1969-70), “museum” paintings reworked with ironic and irreverent intrusions. The images—unpredictable and played out in a playful-catastrophic register—are accompanied by a soundtrack improvised in real time by Granchi and Renato Ranaldi: a sound collage of classical pieces, recited texts, percussive explosions, and unorthodox instruments.
