Suffering from Alzheimer’s, a man watches a Super 8 film from his past at his son’s request. The images of holidays at his parents’ house awaken buried sensations, the gentleness of the wind, the warmth of the sun, the tranquility of childhood. This film was created using footage reworked during the Nice 2024 and Cambridge 2025 scratch workshops.

Biography
Greta Bonnaud is currently studying History of Art at the University of Cambridge. In the hands of time is her film debut.
Statement
My creative practice has often explored how intangible experiences, particularly memory, can be translated into visual form. I have approached this before through installation and portraiture, but found the medium of experimental film particularly fitting. This project is a culmination of all of these ideas.
The film was created using found Super 8 footage of a family in the UK in the 1970s, which I first encountered in 2024 while working on a photography project based on similar themes. When reviewing the images the following year, had been completely transformed by the alterations made in the scratch animation workshop led by the Cambridge Super 8 group. This gave the footage new life and I started imagining the lives of these characters.
