Mis impresiones del Iberá

Tadeo Bortnowski

Film dedicated to exalt the natural exuberance of the Iberá marshlands. The voice-over of a supposed member of an expedition to the region begins to describe the exotic and savage condition of both nature and the inhabitants, whose “inbreeding unions are degenerating them in such a way that they do not develop”. Then, the narration summons images of explicit violence against the fauna to admit that “we, the outpost of civilization, have shattered the tranquility of this natural population, sowing panic and death”. The justification put forward is the need to document these “strange” places, as they will soon be just a memory due to the “Iberá Plan”, a statement that is illustrated with frenetic images of dams, power plants and industries powered by this energy.

The film is part of the rescue project “Archivo audiovisual de la memoria del nordeste” (AMANEA) led by filmmaker Joaquín Pedretti and archivist Leandro Varela.
